The very excellent Classic Cafes website has a Top Ten list of cafes in London. Some are already dead and gone, but I’m trying to visit each at least once. The current list is:

1a) The New Piccadilly, Denman Street W1
I have visited a few times now. A regular haunt until it closes.

1b) E Pellicci, Bethnal Green Road E2 – visited today (30/03/05).
It’s as good as they say. Which is very good indeed.

2) Gambardella, Vanbrugh Park SE3
3) L Rodi, Blackhorse Lane E17

4) Cafe, Redchurch Street E2
Bugger. I actually walked past this one today, after my visit to E Pellicci but I didn’t realise it was on the list. I thought it looked a good one.

5) Golden Fish, Farringdon Road EC1
6) Alpino, Chapel Market N1
7) Gone.
8 ) River Cafe, Putney Bridge Approach SW6
9) Don’s, Lower Clapton Rd E5
10a) Italian Restaurant, Rochester Row SW1
10b) Gone.

I will probably write some reviews at some point, but until then, this page is more of a tick list for me.
